OBJECTIVE： To explore the problems about TCM modernization and TCM international development in recent years， and to put forward its solutions. METHODS： The necessity of TCM modernization was analyzed， and the problems about TCM modernization development were put forward； the latest development was summarized， and the suggestions were put forward TCM international development. RESULTS： The problems about TCM modernization development included： hysteretic basic research， weak industrial development base and poor innovation ability existed； modern scientific theory was difficult to interpret the connotation of traditional TCM； poor resource protection badly influenced the sustainable development of TCM industry； there was absence of intellectual property rights protection and relevant international criteria； TCM modernization diversified investment system meeting market economy had not yet been established， etc. Some advanced development of TCM modernization had been achieved： integral cognition had been improved； TCM multiple components and pharmacodynamic research was strengthening； the connotation of traditional TCM was interpreted from pharmacodynamic material basis； for TCM with multiple components， the fingerprints of TCM chemical components was established in respect of phytochemistry； modern science was used to study“treatment according to syndrome differentiation”and compatibility principle of “Jun-Chen-Zuo-Shi”； the method and technology of“omics”were all used. It was necessary for TCM modernization to strengthen international cooperation， fully take the advantage of internet， and introduce big data information into TCM clinical practice and TCM industry development. CONCLUSIONS： TCM modernization and TCM international development not only need to inherit and develop the theory of TCM， but also require the application of modern scientific theory and advanced technology， enhance multilateral cooperation， and emphasize and apply bid data. With the adjustment of TCM industrial structure and product structure， our national pharmaceutical industry develop vigorously only through establishing internationally accepted pharmaceutical criteria regulation system， preparing TCM with independent intellectual property rights and entering international market in therapeutic drug capacity.
