OBJECTIVE: To study the distribution law of Valsartan capsules in the ocular tissue of rabbit eyes after intragastrical administration. METHODS: 3 rabbits (6 eyes) were intragastrically administrated Valsartan solution, 7.5 mg every time, twice a day, for 6 d. Rabbits were executed after last administration, and the cornea, iris, aqueous humor, lens, vitreous and retina tissues were collected. HPLC was used to determine the content of valsartan in each tissue. RESULTS: Content of valsartan in retina, iris, cornea, aqueous humor, vitreous and lens were (4.274±1.75), (2.233±0.72), (0.871±0.66), (0.713±0.49), (0.177±0.07), (0.083±0.06) μg/g, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: After multiple administrations, valsartan distributes unevenly in each tissue of eyes, showing highest distribution content in retina, followed by iris, and lowest content in lens and vitreous.
