OBJECTIVE: To explore the endocrinologists’ prescription preferences for various attributes of insulin injection pens, and provide basis for diabetes management and related personnel decision-making. METHODS: Based on discrete choice experiment, 44 endocrinologists from Shenzhen, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Wuxi, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Shenyang, Jinan, Kunming and Chongqing were investigated, Logistic regression analysis was combined with investigation data to analyze the effects of 5 attributes of insulin injection pens on the prescription preferences. RESULTS: Totally 44 questionnaires were sent out, 35 were effectively received with effectively recovery of 79.55%. In the 5 attributes of insulin injection pens, odds ratio (OR) of easy to use was 10.649 (P<0.001); OR of convenient to use was 6.284 (P<0.001); OR of price was 0.991 (P<0.001); the results of memory function (P=0.216) and design (P=0.184) weren’t significant. CONCLUSIONS: Endocrinologists’ ideal insulin injection pen would be easy to use, convenient to use and has the lowest cost, while regardless of the design and memory function.
