OBJECTIVE: To investigate in vitro antioxidant, anticoagulant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities of different extracts of Lonicerae japonicae from Fengqiu. METHODS: The total extract was obtained from L. japonicae by extraction with 30% ethanol, and dispersed in water, from which the extracts of corresponding parts were obtained after extraction successively with trichloromethane and ethyl acetate. The in vitro antioxidant activity of different extracts from L. japonicae [reflected by IC50, Trolox equivalent value] was investigated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical, 2,2′ -azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) radical scavenging test and Fe3+ reduction and antioxidant capacity test. The α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and coagulant activity of 4 extracts were also studied in vitro. RESULTS: The ethyl acetate extract of L. japonicae had the highest antioxidant activity among 4 extracts, IC50 of ABTS and DPPH were 9.22, 25.23 μg/ml and Trolox equivalent value was (2 480.80±5.51) μmol/g. Procoagulant activity of water extract and anticoagulation activity of n-butyl alcohol extract were the highest; the plasma recalcification time were (210.28±2.19) s and (149.20±1.25) s. Both total extract and ethyl acetate part inhibited the activity of α-glucosidase, and IC50 of re-screening were 378.61, 451.45 μg/ml. CONCLUSIONS: L. japonicae from Fengqiu have good antioxidant, anticoagulant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities in vitro, and could be further developed and studied.
