OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of clinical pharmacists’ intervention on drug use in respiratory department, and to promote rational drug use. METHODS: 466 inpatients were provided with medication guide in respiratory department of our hospital, including medication timing, route of administration, special medication apparatus use, precautions during medication course, discharge and health education, etc. RESULTS: Clinical pharmacists found out medication problems in 378 patients, among whom, there were 223 cases of medication timing error (47.85%), 22 cases of route error of administration error (4.72%), 63 cases of special medication apparatus use error (13.52%). 186 cases of precautions intervention of aerosol inhalation course (39.91%) were carried out by clinical pharmacists, with successful intervened rate of 100%. After intervention, awareness rate of each item was improved from 13.51%-95.28% to 92.31%-100%. CONCLUSIONS: Clinical pharmacists can gather pharmaceutical care experience through clinical drug therapy to effectively promote the quality of pharmaceutical care and safe, rational and effective use of drugs in patients.
